History of Grama Panchayat

Thiruvarpu Grama Panchayat: History and Heritage Thiruvarpu Grama Panchayat, a prominent region in the Kottayam district, is an area rich in history and heritage. Its history is shaped around the historic Thiruvarpu Sree Krishna Swamy Temple and the struggles of the freedom movement. Situated on the banks of a tributary of the Meenachil River, this village got its name 'Thiruvarpu' from its famous Thiruvarpu Sree Krishna Swamy Temple. According to legend, the idol consecrated here is that of Lord Krishna returning to Dwarka after the assassination of King Kamsa. There is also a belief associated with this temple that long ago, when the temple doors were delayed in opening, Lord Parashurama opened them realizing that the Lord was starving.
